Dickson’s Breckyn Scruggs – FFA Spotlight – Presented by OK AgCredit

In her first year of high school, Breckyn Scruggs of Dickson made the most of
every opportunity she had not only in athletics, but in FFA as well.

The freshman, soon to be sophomore, was a member of several clubs and she competed in three sports.

“I am a member of National Honor Society and the gifted & Talented program. I’m in powerlifting and play fast and slow-pitch softball,” said Scruggs.

She’s also a member of the FFA chapter at Dickson High School.

“When I was a toddler, both my uncles were heavily involved in FFA especially in livestock shows, however I officially joined my eighth grade year. My whole family has been actively involved in FFA since before I was born. My mother was the first person to receive the American FFA Degree from her chapter. She has
encouraged me to be as active as possible in FFA,” said Scruggs.

Scruggs does not shy away from work. In fact she looks forward to putting in the time to show or judge livestock.

“I love the experiences of feeding, working with my animals and the excitement of showing them in livestock shows. However, I’ve also gained a lot of experiences through the other aspects of FFA, including working with special needs children at the county livestock show. I judge livestock and I was vice president in the opening ceremonies contests. I plan to participate in public speaking next year,” said Scruggs. “Over the years I’ve shown pigs, sheep, goats and cattle. I started showing pigs when I was just three years old and I currently show goats and cattle.”

The underclassman has big dreams for her future.

“My dream is to become the first person in my family to attend an Ivy League College but if that doesn’t work out, I will attend Oklahoma State University and become a Veterinarian,” said Scruggs.
