Lone Grove Longhorns 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Henry Roberts Express Pharmacy

LONE GROVE LONGHORNS

Coach: CURTIS COLE

8-3

OFFENSE

The Longhorns bring back a solid returning cast on offense, including six players with starting experience. Under second-year head coach Curtis Cole, Lone Grove will form in a two-back spread offense that will balance its passing and running attack. Brody Harris (6-2, 180, Sr.), a three-sport star in contention to be Lone Grove High School’s class of 2024 valedictorian, will return with his heady playmaking and big-target frame after catching 20 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown last fall. D’Marion Jackson (5-9, 165, Sr.) caught 34 passes for 256 yards and a pair of touchdowns last year and will bring his services back to the Longhorns receiving corps. Eli Kendall (5-8, 175, Sr.) took 60 carries for 610 yards and 6 touchdowns last fall and returns as the running back room’s veteran. Landon Glover (6-0, 245, Sr.) will lead an experienced offensive line when it takes the field Week 0 at Anadarko.

DEFENSE

Lone Grove plans to base its defense in a 4-3 – a “sound defense with great technique.” Linebacker Sam Harris (6-0, 200, Sr.) accounted for 125 tackles, a team-high among returning defenders, along with 4 sacks and an interception. Fellow backer Zayne Bond (6-0, 190, Sr.) recorded 5 sacks and 80 tackles as a junior last fall. Brody Harris will lend his athleticism to the defense after he caught four interceptions and made 79 tackles last year. Another superb athlete in the secondary, Jaxon McClennahan (5-9, 160, Sr.) returns for an anticipated final campaign after he picked off opposing quarterbacks 4 times last year and had 50 tackles. Stetson Bradshaw (6-0, 215, Sr.) is the team’s veteran defender in the trenches. He accounted for 35 tackles last year.
