Plainview Indians 2023 Football Team Preview -Presented by Ashley Atencio – Shelter Insurance

Last season the Indians fell just short of making the Class 3A playoffs. But as they enter this season, head coach Joe Price is looking forward to seeing who will step up and make an impact on the team. “We will be looking for guys to step in a replace starters on the offensive and defensive lines,” he said. “We return our leading rusher and receiver on offense and our leading tackler on defense. We will be young at quarterback and need our new starter to have great leadership.” The returning offensive producer for the Indians from last season is running back Blake Stewart (6-2, 205, Sr.). Last season, he had 1,560 rushing yards and fourteen touchdowns and hopes to carry that production into this season. The wide receiver duo of Shepherd Sisemore (6-3, 190, Jr.) and Hudson Hobbs (5-7, 140, Jr.) combined for 712 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions last season. This year, they will return to be a force again on the outside. Doing the dirty work on the offensive line will be Cash Bederka (5-8, 220, Sr.), Jarod Trotts (6-2, 270, Sr.), and Austin Eubanks (6-0, 200, Sr.).

On the defensive side of the ball, Price’s squad will look to Stewart and Roby Stedman (5-9, 170, Jr.) at linebacker to be leaders. Last season, together they totaled 158 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and four sacks. In the secondary, Sisemore will be at strong safety. He tallied 34 tackles and two tackles for loss last season and he will work to shut down opposing receivers. Eubanks had 28 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks last season at defensive end and he is ready to be a bigger playmaker for the team. Assistant coaches for the Indians this season will be Randy Growall, Warren Butler, Chance Pearce, Trey Rhodes.
