2023-2024 Plainview Wrestling Preview – Presented by Carter County Dodge

Inside Plainview Wrestling

With the start of any new wrestling season, there are some things you would expect. Wrestlers typically move up in weight. A new crop of freshmen enter the wrestling room. And coaches are focused on getting everyone in shape and ready to wrestle. At Plainview High School, these tasks fall on the shoulders of two coaches. Rocky Antencio makes his return to Plainview, while Michael Barnes will remain on staff and continue to help the program.

Coach Antencio said the program is on the cusp of being one of the top programs.

“I came back because we needed someone to step in and help build Plainview wrestling into what it has the potential to be, which is one of the top programs in the state. It all starts with great support from the top. No matter what the sport,” said Antencio.

Several wrestlers are going to have a shot at a great season. Senior Ryan Crawford and junior Keagan Williams are two that coach Antencio said he was excited to see wrestle this season. Devyn Anderson is a sophomore who is poised for a great year as well.

Marshall Mansfield (Jr.) is currently ranked No. 10 at 113-pounds and has the talent to work his way into the state tournament. Creed McDonald (So.) is another exciting wrestler looking to climb his way up the rankings and into the tournament. McDonald is said to have excellent technique.

“A good wrestling room has good workout partners. That’s what it’s all about. They push each other to get better. You need that to build wrestlers who can place at state,” said Antencio.

Dominic Pragg (So.) is another member of the sophomore class that is giving the Plainview faithful hope for the future. But the future is now for thus team and with newcomers like Jaden Smith (Fr.) the program is growing into a real contender.

Bo Rudisill (Fr.) is another newcomer coach Antencio is looking forward to coaching.

“Guys like Bo are gaining experience and that’s what they need right now. Do the little things right and the big things take care of themselves,” said Antencio.

Other wrestlers to watch include Axel Ortega (Fr.), Bryce Scott (Jr.), Carter Rush (Fr.), Gunner Pinno (So.), Hunter Lee (So.), Jimmy Watkins (Jr.), KP Parker (So.), Rye Blackwood (Jr.), Seth Fore (Sr.), Seth Love (Jr.), Jolee Thomas (So.), Riley Stewart (So.), and Georgia Curry (So.).

Trainers for the varsity wrestling team include Tori Cooper, Sophie Eubanks, and Emma Freeman.
