Ardmore’s Natajha Cohee – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Rib Crib

Throwing discus in track and field has taught Natajha Cohee consistency and patience. Her sport requires solid technique and perfect balance. Now a senior at Ardmore High School, Natajha has spent the past four years building skills to help her team.

As a freshman she enjoyed the excitement alongside her track team as they won a state title. This is the best memory she has of her sport. She also enjoys the connections built with her teammates.

“I love the excitement and energy that comes with playing the sport,” she says. This energy keeps her passionate about competing at every track meet.

Natajha finds inspiration in many people. The teammate she most looks up to is Makayla Cronemeyer. She was a top player on the team who did not let epilepsy slow her down. “Even with her epilepsy Makayla still continued to be one of, if not the best thrower on our team,” says Natajha.

Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Fairmaner because she made learning in her class interesting and fun. An athlete Natajha looks up to is American discus thrower Laulauga Tausaga-Collins. Natajha respects how she carries herself as an athlete.

Her biggest inspiration comes from her family. “My dad and my siblings, because they are the ones who push me to keep going,” she said.

Coaches throughout her athletic career have helped Natajha. Starting with her eighth-grade basketball coaches who introduced her to track. She wants to say a special thank you to coach Harold Brown and coach Destinee Allen. Their influence has made her a better athlete.

Natajha’s favorite part about representing her high school as an athlete is the support and praise from the community. To perform at her best, she follows this advice given to her. “Practice makes perfect, so put in the time to sharpen your skills,” she said.

In addition to track, Natajha has been an athletic trainer for football and is involved in the Miss Black Ardmore Pageant. Away from school she is also the assistant youth secretary at Corinth Baptist Church.
