OFFENSE
While his team fell just shy of making the playoffs last season, Plainview head football coach Joe Price is excited to get this season underway because he thinks they have a great shot to make some noise. “We return seven starters on offense and eight on defense,” he said. “We gained a ton of experience last year as a group and played well in all of our games. The expectation for the season is to take the next step and turn those close losses into wins and have a great season.” Leading the offense on the field will be quarterback Cooper Flowers (6-1, 170, Jr.). Flowers completed 63.5 percent of his passes last season for 1,674 yards and 19 touchdowns. He will have a trio of outstanding receivers to get the ball to. Shepherd Sisemore (6-3, 195, Sr.), Braden French (6-2, 200, Sr.), and Hudson Hobbs (5-8, 140, Sr.) combined to catch 79 passes for 1,332 yards and 17 touchdowns last season and they are expected to be big contributors this season. At halfback, Jhett Price (6-2, 220, Jr.) returns after having 166 rushing yards and a score. Keegan Williams (6-2, 256, Sr.) will anchor the offensive line this season and work to keep the defense out of the backfield.
DEFENSE
The Indians’ defense looks to be aggressive and use their speed to slow down the opposition. Some of the leaders of the defense that will work to keep the offense at bay are linebackers Toby Stedman (5-9, 165, Sr.) and Devyn Anderson (5-11, 220, Jr.). Last season, Stedman registered 115 tackles and an interception, while Anderson added in 87 tackles. Patrolling the secondary and defending the pass and big plays will be Hobbs at strong safety, Sisemore at free safety, and French at cornerback. Last season saw Hobbs have 54 tackles and two interceptions, Sisemore with 59 tackles, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles, and French total 40 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Assistant coaches include Warren Butler, Randy Growall, Will Coffman, Alex Doby, Trey Rhodes, Brock Parham, and Tod Weder.
