LONE GROVE LONGHORNS

Coach: CURTIS COLE

7-4

OFFENSE

Lone Grove brings a youthful and eager offense to the field this season, led by seasoned offensive lineman Brandon Heckethorn (6-4, 273, Jr.). “Brandon is a great young lineman with a tremendous work ethic in the classroom, weight room, and on the football field,” head coach Curtis Cole said. “He moves really well for his size and can cause havoc in the trenches.” The Longhorns will employ a spread offense under the guidance of Cole. “We feel we have a great core of young athletes that can help us create some explosive plays,” Cole added. The offense will be orchestrated by quarterback Tatum Quinn (5-9, 160, Jr.), who has shown promise with 220 passing yards and four touchdowns last season as the backup. Wide receiver Keller Stanley (6-0, 165, Jr.) and running back Rylee Powell (5-8, 150, Sr.) will be key targets. Powell had 123 rushing yards and one touchdown last season. “We like to get the ball out in space and take advantage of using the entire field,” Cole noted. With only two returning starters, the Longhorns’ offense aims to develop and improve throughout the season.

DEFENSE

The Longhorns’ defense will operate from a 3-3-5 odd stack base. The unit will focus on bringing pressure from various angles and playing fast and downhill. “We will bring pressure from many different angles. We will play fast and downhill trying to keep offenses on their heels,” Cole emphasized. The defensive line features Brandon Heckethorn, who recorded 40 tackles and eight tackles for loss last season. In the secondary, strong safety Luke Stenson (5-7, 155, Jr.) will provide solid coverage with his 58 tackles and one forced fumble from the previous season. Cornerback Tyler Johnson (6-0, 175, Sr.) and linebacker Deakin Mckee (6-0, 160, Jr.) add depth and strength to the defense with their respective 38 and 28 tackles. With four returning starters, the Longhorns’ defense is expected to be a competitive unit this season.
