Marietta’s Kaygan Staton – Softball Spotlight – Presented by The Taste by Chef Rodney

VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you compete in?

Kaygan: I am a senior and I am in softball, powerlifting, and cheer.

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Kaygan: I first started playing softball by playing T-ball. Then, when I got to second grade, I started playing softball. The first time I signed up for the sport, I immediately fell in love with it. I first started doing powerlifting last school year. I never thought I would do it, but I’m glad I did. It is such an amazing experience doing every lift, especially getting a personal record.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Kaygan: I want to give a shoutout to my family for being my biggest supporters through every single season.

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Kaygan: The number one person that inspires me is God. He has been my number one hype man. He got me through all my ups and downs. The Lord motivates me to push to get better every single day.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Kaygan: A teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Jaylynn Hartman. She has one of the biggest hearts I know. Jaylynn has always encouraged all of her teammates when they were down. She is one of the hardest workers I know.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Kaygan: My favorite memory of playing is winning one of our first district games in slow pitch. It’s been at least a few years since our softball program has won a district game. The dedication and hard work that the whole team put into winning the game was incredible. Every single one of us fought hard and I was so proud of us.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Kaygan: My favorite teacher is Mr. Anderson. He always manages to put a smile on everyone’s face. He manages to make every lesson an entertaining, engaging lesson.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Kaygan: My all time favorite meal is tacos and cilantro lime rice.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Kaygan: Your mistakes don’t define you. How you come back from them shows what kind of person you are.
