2024 Wynnewood Football Preview

WYNNEWOOD SAVAGES

Coach: BRAD O’STEEN

3-7

OFFENSE

Brad O’Steen has taken the reigns of the Wynnewood football program after a stint at Ada where he led the Cougars to the state semifinals. O’Steen said the Savages are young but have the talent and competitiveness to compete every Friday night. “Young, very talented and competitive group of players. Our offensive and defensive line must develop for us to have the success that is expected. We our getting back to old ways and getting the culture up to standard,” said O’Steen. Jake Everett (5-11, 171, Jr.) returns to the lineup giving the Savages a player who can play quarterback or line up at wide receiver. Speaking of the WR position, Marques Williams (5-10, 151, Jr.) had 453 yards receiving last year and returns as the teams go-to player in the passing game at slot receiver. Everett added 580 yards on the ground. The offensive line is built around Junior Hernandez (6-2, 278, Sr.). Hernandez is a state champion in powerlifting and a four-year starter. Tight end Aiden Bailey (6-5, 215, Sr.) has tremendous size and athleticism adding another element to the spread offense.

DEFENSE

Six starters are back for the defense including offensive standout Marques Williams who coach O’Steen calls a “lockdown corner.” Jayson Potts (5-11, 155, Jr.) and Chandler Appleton (5-8, 151, Jr.) are two inside linebackers in the Savages 3-4 defense. The “attack and react” defense allows players like Potts and Appleton to rack up big numbers. Potts grabbed 128 tackles last season while Appleton notched 66 tackles of his own. Cole Hildreth (5-11, 191, Jr.) made 33 tackles from his defensive line spot. Also look for outside linebacker Deagan Dixon (5-9, 165, Jr.) who recorded 48 tackles as a sophomore. Standouts like Hernandez and Bailey could help the defense on the line at tackle and end respectively. The coaching staff includes Aaron Sechrist, Nathan McCurley, Chase Sawyer, Queston Autry, and Jason Goodknight.
