Healdton’s Roo Franklin – Football Spotlight – Presented by Headlton Booster Club

Small town football is something special. The whole town shows up on Friday nights to support their athletes and their community. Healdton’s Roo Franklin says that seeing all the support from the community is a boost for him and his teammates.

“It means a lot to me to be able to go out and play football and represent the people who support us,” he said. “I just want to do what I can to help my teammates be successful. Also, when people come to the games our band and cheerleaders also get to show people how much effort they have put in to support us.”

Franklin is a junior at Healdton High School, where he plays wide receiver and free safety for the football team. He is also a member of the basketball and track teams.

Throughout his career, Roo has invested a lot to become the player that he is today. While the work can be tough at times, he says that there is a benefit to it.

“It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication,” he stated. “But I enjoy getting to play the game I love with my friends.”

Healdton head football coach, Dylan Terry, says that Franklin is an outstanding athlete that has potential.
“Roo is the most dynamic player on our team,” Terry said. “He has played both running back and wide receiver for us and has been a weapon at both positions. On the defensive side of the ball, he has also played both linebacker and defensive back and was our leading tackler last year. Roo could have a very bright football future.”

There have been people in Franklin’s life that have made a big impact on him and supported him along the way. He says that these people have been very influential to him.

“My brother, Zac Benton, and my uncle Jimmy Benton are two role models for me,” he said. “They were both great high school football players. My coaches and teammates along with my family and friends have all motivated me to become the best I can.”
