2024 Thackerville Football Preview

THACKERVILLE WILDCATS

Coach: MARK BARRETT

9-3

OFFENSE

Thackerville Wildcats are preparing for another strong season under the leadership of head coach Mark Barrett. “We lost a good group of seniors that got us to the quarterfinals, but we return six starters on both sides of the ball, so we do have some experience,” Barrett said. The offense will feature senior standout Luke Forman (6-1, 165, Sr.), who will be pivotal both as a quarterback and wide receiver. Joining him are key players like Kasen Maggard (6-1, 255, Jr.) at center and Joey Tyre (5-6, 135, So.) at running back. The Wildcats will primarily use a double tight I formation. “Our philosophy is to run the ball as much as we can and throw some when we have to,” Barrett explained. With a balanced mix of returning talent, the Wildcats are poised to challenge their tough district opponents.

DEFENSE

On defense, the Wildcats aim to build on their solid foundation with six returning starters. “We are in a really tough district this year with Weleetka being the favorite, so if we can stay healthy, I feel that we can be right there in the playoffs again,” Barrett said. The defense will be anchored by Luke Forman at defensive end, Lucas Joyner (5-8, 140, Sr.) on the defensive line, and Micah Wolfe (5-8, 145, Sr.) at linebacker. The Wildcats will utilize a 3-2-2 base defense but are prepared to run various formations as needed to adapt to their opponents. This flexibility and experience are expected to make the Wildcats a defensive unit to watch this season. The coaching staff includes Shane Wolfe, Terry White, and Kim Dix.
