After investing a lot of time and effort into something, it is a great feeling to see all of that work pay off. Angelina Powell is a senior at Healdton High School and as she reflects back on her career, she has a couple of moments that stand out to her when she saw her and her teammates work pay off.
“ If I’m being honest, the highlight of my career would have to be going to Area for basketball during my sophomore year,” she said. “It was the first time in 10 years that our school had gone that far. I also made All-American cheer in my four years of high school.”
Along with playing sports, Angelina serves as the President of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, Vice-President of the Student Council, a leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, as well as a member of First Bank & Trust Student Board of Directors.
As a student, Powell has a couple of teachers that have been influential in her life and they are people that she will never forget.
“I have two teachers who have had a big impact on my life,” she said. “One of them is my cheer coach Mrs. Needham. I have known Mrs. Needham since I was in the third grade. She has helped me become the cheerleader and person I am today. I truly wouldn’t have been able to do what I love if it wasn’t for her. Cheering with her these last seven years has been the best, and I’m so grateful for her. Another teacher who has impacted my life is Mrs. Worsham. She has always pushed me to be the best and to step out of my comfort zone. Mrs.Worsham is a teacher you can go to about anything and not feel judged or embarrassed. When I joined FCCLA my freshman year I didn’t know my sponsor would have this big of an impact and I’m not ready to say goodbye.”
Wearing the Healdton name on her uniform is something that Angelina is proud to do.
“To represent my school and community when I play is to have a good attitude and to have good sportsmanship. It’s an honor to represent such an amazing community and school,” Powell said.
