WYNNEWOOD SAVAGES
Coach: CHASE SAWYER
2024-25 Record: 16-10
The Wynnewood Savages enter the new season with a level of excitement that hasn’t been felt around the program in years. After finishing 16–10 a year ago, head coach Chase Sawyer, now in his fourth season, has a roster overflowing with athleticism, depth, and veteran leadership. This year’s group is built to play fast, pressure opponents, and turn every game into a battle of endurance. With talent stretching from the starting five to the 15th man, the Savages believe their ability to rotate freely and maintain constant tempo will be one of their greatest advantages as they push to defend their district title and make noise in the postseason.
The team is anchored by a massive senior class, 11 in total, backed by seven juniors and a competitive group of sophomores fighting for varsity roles. Leading the charge is senior Tay Bennett (6-2, Sr.), who is the heartbeat of the program. Bennett is not only the team captain but also its emotional engine, setting the tone with his work ethic, humility, and leadership. After averaging 19 points, eight rebounds, and six assists per game a season ago, he enters the year decorated with accolades: two-time tournament MVP, three-time all-tournament selection, all-conference, and all-conference MVP runner-up. Bennett led the Savages in every statistical category last season, and as Coach Sawyer puts it, “We go as he goes.”
Alongside him, senior Dazhon Jones (6-1, Sr.) brings power and consistency in the paint, coming off a season in which he posted 10 points and 13 rebounds per game. His physicality on the glass and ability to finish around the rim provide the Savages with a valuable interior presence.
The future of the program is just as bright. Sophomore guard Tariq Williams, a long and explosive 6-foot-1 playmaker, is expected to make noise early in his varsity career. Williams led last year’s junior high squad to a 15–2 record while dominating nearly every category, and Sawyer believes he has the potential to be one of Wynnewood’s all-time greats.
Senior Jake Everett rounds out the team’s leadership core, a high-motor captain who plays every possession at full speed and embodies the selfless culture Sawyer has built.
With talent, depth, and a relentless style of play, Wynnewood is poised for one of its biggest seasons yet.
