With a dynamic offense and experienced leadership, Dickson enters the season with high expectations in first-year head coach Lance Bryan’s debut. Bryan says, “With playmakers on both sides of the ball, this squad looks poised to make a strong run this season,” and the numbers back up that confidence. The Comets return eight starters on offense and eight on defense from a 4-6 campaign, and after breaking almost every school record in passing and receiving in the first year running their spread Air Raid attack, Dickson believes the best is yet to come.
The Comets run a spread Air Raid passing attack designed to get the ball to playmakers in space, and senior quarterback Baylor Bond (6-0, 175) returns after throwing for 2,182 yards and 21 touchdowns while breaking every single-game and single-season passing record in school history. Bond will have a deep receiving corps at his disposal this season. Junior wide receiver and running back D’Eric Drain (6-1, 175) posted 766 receiving yards and 426 rushing yards with 11 total touchdowns; sophomore wide receiver Taytum Woulfe (6-0, 160) hauled in 521 yards and eight total touchdowns as a freshman, and senior wide receiver Talyn Reames (5-11, 170) caught 253 yards and two touchdowns. Senior offensive lineman Landry Baker (6-3, 320) anchors the front and gives Dickson the protection needed to let Bond operate the high-octane passing game.
Defensively, the Comets base out of a 3-4 and look to put athletes everywhere, and with eight starters back, Dickson has the experience and playmaking ability to create havoc. Senior linebacker Easton Peoples (5-11, 195) anchors the defense with 114 total tackles, while senior defensive end Henry Guess (6-1, 190) added 104 total tackles. Senior cornerback Jaelon Douglas (5-10, 160) is a playmaker in the secondary with four interceptions and two defensive touchdowns, senior athlete Keegan Crouch (6-0, 190) contributed 60 tackles and 14 quarterback pressures, and senior defensive back Kobe Booker (5-11, 170) picked off two passes.
