Ardmore High School senior Tyson Laster has built his football career on resilience, discipline and the influence of those closest to him.
“My mother, her pushing me every day inspires me,” Laster said.
Now entering 12th grade, Laster has developed into a key contributor for Ardmore’s defense at cornerback, a position he describes with a laugh as “everything about it is hard.”
Despite the challenges, he embraces the role and the responsibility that comes with it.
Off the field, Laster enjoys a quieter pace. He spends his free time riding horses and listening to music, activities that help him stay grounded during the demands of the season.
In the classroom, history stands out as his favorite subject, thanks in part to a teacher he remembers simply as Coach Birth, who left a lasting impression on him.
Laster said one of the most memorable — and unusual — moments he has witnessed on the field was when his friend Marcus Foard suffered cramps in both legs at the same time.
Still, his favorite football memory remains Ardmore’s victory over Altus during his freshman year, a moment that helped shape his competitive drive.
More than wins and highlights, Laster values the relationships built through football.
“My teammates and coaches pushing me to be my best and the brotherhood we got,” he said, is what he enjoys most about being part of the team. He echoed that sentiment again, emphasizing that the bond shared among teammates is what he loves most.
Laster carries lessons from the game that extend far beyond the field.
“There is going to be adversity, but you have to keep going,” he said.
As he prepares for each game, music plays a key role in his pregame routine, helping him lock in mentally and stay focused.
With his senior year ahead, Laster continues to lean on perseverance, teamwork and the daily motivation instilled by his mother.
