Ardmore High School freshman Amara King is a multisport athlete, playing both basketball and track for the Ardmore High School Tigers. For basketball, Amara plays multiple positions, including point guard, small forward, and shooting guard, but is able to play all positions. Amara is a sports veteran having started playing basketball in first grade, and started track when she was just 8 years old; Amara would participate in United States of America Track and Field (USATF) in the summer.

Amara is proud to represent her school and her community as a student athlete. Amara proclaimed, “It means everything to me to be able to represent both my school and community.”

As far as a teacher or coach that has impacted Amara the most, she doesn’t limit it to simply one. Amara explained, “I simply cannot limit it to one. Coach Cody, Coach Jessie, and Coach Rod have had the biggest impacts on my life. They have developed me into the player I am today. They have helped me overcome obstacles. They push me to be a better person and athlete. Without them a lot of this would not be possible.”

Amara looks to her family as the source of her biggest role model. Amara stated, “My mom is my biggest influence. She is always there for me and always has my back.”

In regards to what it has taken Amara to become successful in sports, Amara stated, “It has taken practice, mindset, hard work, and having great coaches that push me to be better every time I step on a court.”

Many memories are made as a student athlete. For Amara, 2 particular events stood out to her the most, thus far. Amara recalled, “One of those memories was getting 52 points in one game. Also, this past summer, South Carolina Women’s Basketball Coach Dawn Stanley sat on our court and watched us play.”

After graduating high school, Amara plans on continuing her education while also playing NCAA Basketball. Amara stated, “I want to take my basketball career to the next level, and one day play for Louisiana State University.”
