Ardmore High School senior Marcus Foard has built his football career on perseverance, discipline and a deep sense of team unity.
Foard, who plays defensive end and center, faces a physical challenge every game, often lining up against opponents weighing more than 300 pounds while he weighs 208. Despite the size difference, he embraces the grind.
“The toughest part is competing with people twice my size,” Foard said. “But it pushes me to be better.”
That mindset reflects the influence of one of his biggest inspirations, Coach Colley.
“He never gave up on me throughout my whole time in high school,” Foard said. “He always pushed me to be the best I can.”
Foard’s growth as a player mirrors the lessons he has taken from the game itself.
“Sports have taught me discipline, accountability, leadership, and how to keep pushing even when things don’t go my way,” he said.
One of his most memorable moments came during a chaotic play that turned into an unexpected highlight.
“Coach called a blitz, but I didn’t hear it and ended up dropping back instead,” Foard said.
“My outside linebacker hit the quarterback, and he threw it right to me. I picked it off and took it back for a touchdown. It felt like a dream.”
While individual plays stand out, Foard values the collective success of his team even more.
He recalls the satisfaction of winning games when outsiders doubted them.
“It felt very good proving everyone wrong,” he said.
The sense of brotherhood within the team is what Foard enjoys most about football.
“In the locker room everyone pushes each other to improve,” he said. “It feels like a big family.”
He credits teammate Benson Lee for leaving a lasting impact, pointing to his leadership and work ethic as an example others strive to follow.
Off the field, Foard enjoys spending time with friends and family and going fishing. In the classroom, he favors history, citing Coach Naylor as a memorable teacher who combined humor with meaningful lessons.
Foard also takes pride in representing his school and community, contributing wherever he can and appreciating the strong support from local fans.
“Almost every home game the stadium is packed,” he said. “They cheer us on to victory.”
As he prepares for graduation, Foard carries forward lessons learned through football, lessons rooted in resilience, teamwork and determination.
