Dickson freshman Evie Pittman is already making a name for herself as one of the school’s most versatile athletes, bringing the same competitive fire she shows on the softball diamond to the girls track program. She competes in the 100 and 200 meter relays and in the high jump, blending speed, explosiveness and confidence every time she steps on the track.
Pittman stays busy year-round with fastpitch, slow pitch and basketball, but she sees each sport as a way to sharpen qualities that carry over into track. “Playing sports has taught me discipline, leadership skills, strength and perseverance,” Pittman said. That mindset shows up when she’s working through tough workouts, chasing faster relay splits or trying to clear a new personal best in the high jump.
Already an All-District Catcher of the Year in softball as a freshman, Pittman said she leans heavily on her faith to handle big moments and expectations. “My God and His word inspired me. I can do nothing without Him,” she said. “I know He has great things for my future. His promises and word get me through all situations in life and in my sports.”
Pittman also credits the people around her for shaping who she is as both an athlete and a leader. She points to former teacher Jon Davis for helping her “step out of my comfort zone by using my voice,” and describes longtime teammate Mischa Ortega as “not only a teammate, but a forever sister” because of the unique bond between a pitcher and catcher.
As she continues to grow in Dickson’s track program, Pittman said she wants her effort and attitude to reflect something bigger than medals or records. “I want to show God’s love and kindness through me and the way I play sports. I want to be a role model to not only younger athletes, but to all athletes,” she said.
