Sulphur’s Bridge Barrett – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by David Earsom – Shelter Insurance

At Sulphur High School, senior Bridge Barrett has become the kind of multi-sport athlete whose influence reaches far beyond wins and stats. A three-sport standout, Barrett splits his time between the football field, basketball court, and baseball diamond, excelling as a wide receiver and defensive back in football, a point guard in basketball, and a shortstop in baseball. But if you ask him what drives it all, the answer comes quickly: his faith. “My faith in Jesus motivates me every day,” he says, a source of strength that shapes both how he plays and how he carries himself.

Barrett credits much of his character to the people closest to him, his family. His biggest role models are the ones he grows with at home, especially his dad. “He’s a great leader in our family and shows me how to be a great man. He has great faith in God,” Barrett says. That foundation of support has helped him navigate the challenges of balancing three sports, schoolwork, and life as a teenager committed to excellence.

He also points to one teacher in particular who helped mold him: Mr. Jones. Known for his unconventional discipline methods, Jones often had students drop to pushups instead of sending them to the office. “He had the biggest impact on my life as a teacher,” Barrett says. “He taught us accountability.”

Even with the awards, exciting moments, and Friday-night lights, Barrett says the real highlight of his career isn’t something that shows up in a box score. “It’s the brotherhood and friendships I’ve gotten to build with my friends,” he says. One of those friends is Maddux Boyd, the teammate he loved competing against the most. Their battles sometimes got heated, fights included, but Barrett says that was just their competitive fire and love for the game.

He’s also quick to shine a light on others. He calls quarterback Kale Brakefield the most underappreciated player on the team. “He’s a first-year quarterback and is already one of the best in Oklahoma.”

Outside of sports, Barrett stays active in FCA and enjoys following faith-driven influencers like Forrest Frank and Bryce Crawford. Above all, representing Sulphur means everything to him. “People do things differently down here. We are gritty and work hard. I love every bit of Sulphur.”
